Hesperus and Dell Technologies celebrated the San Carlos Apache Girls Who Game chapter at the Microsoft offices in Tempe, AZ.
After two full years of engagement, studying, partnership, and hard work, Hesperus and Dell Technologies celebrated the San Carlos Apache Girls Who Game chapter at the Microsoft offices in Tempe, AZ on Wednesday February 28th.
This event is our first in-person US Tribal Girls Who Game Celebration event to celebrate the culmination of the San Carlos Apache fall cohort for 2023. 44 students across the San Carlos Apache intermediary, middle and high school traveled from their reservation to Phoenix for a tour of the Microsoft office and to celebrate and present on their Minecraft builds that represent cultural and historical San Carlos Apache. Students also engaged in speed mentoring with mentors across Dell, Microsoft, Intel Corporation, Freeport-McMoRan & Comcast.
The San Carlos Apache Girls Who Game chapter is the first on tribal land in the United States.
What a great day to celebrate these kids' hard work and perseverance as they built the world of San Carlos Apache with cultural, language, and historical aspects of their tribe! Thank you to their teachers who work with them every week to create and deliver the only digital literacy program on the reservation.
Thank you to all of our kids, teachers, mentors, partners, and staff for making this day so special. This is what real partnership and collaboration can deliver on behalf of tribal communities.
